I reserve that spot for you after we set up an appointment. Please make any cancellations at least two business days (48 hours) in advance, both as a courtesy to me and to other patients on the waiting list or who are asking to be seen sooner. This gives me enough time to try to offer someone else your slot. Please take note that if your appointment is on Monday at 3pm, you must let me know by the previous Thursday at 3pm at the latest. You will be charged the entire session price if you fail to provide two business days’ notice. Emergency exceptions are managed on an individual basis. *Keep in mind that insurance providers probably won’t pay you back for late cancellation or no-show penalties.
Please be aware that I am unable to promise any urgent or emergent availability, nor can I ensure that messages placed outside of regular business hours will reach me until the next working day. Do not wait for a callback if you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency. Rather, dial 911 or visit the closest emergency department

HIVES-Honeybee Initiative
The HIVES Program empowers Veterans to improve their overall well-being and mental health through the therapeutic practice of beekeeping. By combining hands-on activity with mindfulness and leisure practices, the program provides a meaningful and restorative experience that promotes relaxation, purpose, and connection.
Originally launched in May 2019, the program was developed in response to the growing need for innovative approaches to address mental health challenges among Veterans. Many Veterans face increased risks related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, social isolation, and loss of purpose, all of which can negatively impact quality of life and overall wellness.
Program Approach
Within the HIVES Program, Veterans participate in guided mindfulness and relaxation practices both before and during beekeeping activities. Caring for the bees provides a structured, supportive environment where participants can learn and practice skills that help them manage stress, regulate difficult emotions, and build resilience in their daily lives.
Proven Impact
Veterans participating in the program have reported meaningful improvements in their well- being. Evaluations of the program have demonstrated:
- Significant reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms
- Improved overall health and wellness scores
- Increased sense of purpose and engagement
While some participants experienced challenges related to mobility when working with traditional hive equipment, the program continues to adapt by incorporating hive lifters and alternative hive designs to ensure safe and accessible participation for all Veterans.
Growing Innovation
Due to its positive outcomes, the HIVES Program is expanding to multiple facilities, allowing more Veterans to benefit from this innovative therapeutic model.
